Shipshoal 26 (The Pickets)
I got word today that plans are already in motion to remove shipshoal 26 (The Pickets) and all surrounding structures. Because of the rig's structures, it has become a prime fishing spot for many local fishermen. If this is allowed to happen, the sportsman of this area will surely suffer. Does anyone know who we can contact to prevent this from occuring? Senators, representatives, CCA, etc.? If I am not mistaken, a few years ago the state took possesion of the enstar rig when it was scheduled for removal, preventing the rig from being destroyed. If this process is to be stopped, action must be taken quickly. The rig is currently shut down and the well heads are being plugged. Any help or ..... Read More

Tuna time!
May 14th, Sportsman TV host Greg
Hackney, Bowie Outfitters’ David Reynerson and Capt.
Trey Pique of VooDoo Sportfishing Charters in Venice
landed four tuna averaging 80 pounds each.
The day started slowly for the crew, with the fish ignoring live
hard tails and live pogies drifted behind the boat or sent down
were tuna were spotted on the depth sounder.
Pique marked numerous tuna on the depth sounder in the
150- to 200-foot range, and with the patience born from experience he switched tactics.
A small, frozen blackfin was pulled from the ice and cut up
into chum-sized pieces, and five lines with hooks concealed
within tuna chunks were ..... Read More

Sail Fishing Happy Day Today
Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Steve Meek and David Johnson, co-founders of Fulcrum Group from Keller, TX, and associates were in Fort Lauderdale FL attending the VentureTech Network convention and decided to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale aboard the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team. We had winds out of the east at 7 mph and indigo blue waters on the 2nd reef with 1-2 ft seas.
Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in the water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL in 120 ft. water. We started trolling, and our first strike came very quickly, with a 15 lb. Black Fin Tuna, followed by a mixture of Bonitos ..... Read More

REEL LIFE FISHING
Pat Tarantino of Pet Express asked me to take his family and friends to catch some big fish. Well be careful of what you ask for because you just might get it. The first stop was the right hit because Pat had the first and largest amberjack on the line in short order. Just as that was going on Rob had the black fin tuna busting the surface right at the boat so it was all hands on a rod and watch the drag roll off the reels. Then it happens, the amberjacks came up and were eating anything they could find including trying to eat the 25 pound tunas. There were at lease 2 monster jacks in the bunch and they were hooked but we pulled the hooks on one and broke off the second. These were easy 80+ ..... Read More

Gulf Stream 5/10/2013
Finally the weather decided to cooperate with the fishermen today! The Yeah Right II broke the Cape Fear Inlet this morning in time to capture the true beauty of nature as the sun came up! Joining us were Jeff and Brandon Peacock of Kernersville, NC alongside Denver Compton of Rustburg, VA and Mike Neighbors of Goode, Va and Todd Willis of Lynchburg, VA on a Gulf Stream expedition! It was mentioned on the way out that Denver would love to catch a Mahi-Mahi, well, shortly after the high speed lures were deployed, wouldn't you know it! Denver put his first Mahi in the boat!!!
With the football Blackfin Tuna jumping all around the boat I quickly switched up to a ballyhoo spread ..... Read More

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Matt Cleveland and Darric Hawkins, together with four other co-workers from Genbev, a distributor of beverages, were in Fort Lauderdale FL for their annual convention and while here chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We had winds out of the east at 5 miles an hour, blue skies, with 2 ft. seas. We stopped and purchased a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait on our way out to the fishing ground. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in the water at the sea buoy that sits in 120 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale, ..... Read More

REEL LIFE FISHING
Ran a trip this past Tuesday with Jerald Horst to do a story for Louisiana Sportsman's Mag. What a grreat day we had. Not going to give out the details of the story but it will be a good one. We fished some deep rocks and caught some of the fish that were on Jerald's hit list. Namely Queen triggers, black fin snapper and Sand Tiles. Also among the catch was red porgy, Knobbed porgy, scamp, almaco jack, amber jack, black fin tuna, and yellow eye snapper. Released fish also caught were red snapper and gag grouper. To catch these fish I use a fairly small hook. Its a 4/0 39942BLN Mustad hook. Just to say how tough these hooks are; they caught 40 to 50 pound amberjacks with no problem. Capt. ..... Read More

Sail Mahi Fishing Happy Day Today
Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
A gift to remember
Pat Gehring chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team for an eight hour trip as a “Thank You” gift for her nephew, Louis, for helping her move. Lou was joined by five of his friends and family, Derek, Danny, Rickey, Billy, and Kiven on this fishing adventure.
On our way out, we stopped to pick up a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in the water, as I started to troll by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL. I headed north and trolled over some of our artificial wrecks located in Fort Lauderdale catching a total of 6 ..... Read More

Shark Fishing Happy Day Today
Dr. Burg and Julie Weaver reserved the charter boat “Happy Day Today” for an offshore fishing charter. When they arrived, we discussed what Dr. Burg and Julie would like to catch. Some eating fish, little action and if possible a larger game fish. Upon leaving the dock, we headed offshore for Mahi Mahi. We started out in 200’ of water and worked the areas offshore. We ended up catching 4 Mahi Mahi. After an hour offshore, we headed inshore to capture some King Mackerel and Bonito. Successfully we were able to capture another 4 Bonito.
After about two hours into the charter, we decided to target the larger game fish. So we headed to the deeper shark grounds in 375’ to 400’ of ..... Read More

Tuna Fishing Happy Day Today
Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Lori and Jim Jason Fuchs from Brookfield Wisconsin, where Spring did not appear yet and frigid weather was still present, decided to head south to sunny Fort Lauderdale FL for vacationing and to do some deep sea sport fishing aboard the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team. Winds were out of the east, northeast at 12-15 mph, 3-4 ft. seas, temperatures in the low 80’s.
We left the dock and I headed towards the third reef, which is located in 120 ft. of water 15 minutes after leaving the dock. We put down two plainers and four surface baits. I kept trolling the drop off from 300 ft. to 100 ft. of water, ..... Read More

Offshore Tuna Report - http://www.captaincookcharters.com
We ran 3 trips over the last weekend...

Sunday we started out for wahoo since Andy had pick up 2 nice ones hours prior..., but bailed quickly seeing tuna marks on the sounder. Shark Wahoo Fishing Happy Day Today
Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Three great days of fishing!!
Clint Presley with his 12 year old son, Jack, from Georgia were on their way to the Virgin Islands for fishing but had problems with connecting flights so they decided to stay in Fort Lauderdale to do some deep sea sport fishing and chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team for three afternoon fishing trips.
In the three days of fishing, 12 year old Jack was our main angler and Dad was the photographer and second angler. On our first charter, Jack caught a juvenile White Shark, estimated weight – 200 lbs – quite exiting for Jack. Pictures were taken and the White Shark ..... Read More

REEL LIFE FISHING
It was finally an offshore kind of day. Capt
Eric, took Wayne Bearb and gang for an outing of catching by the way the fish box looked today. Eric told me he had 13 different species of fish today so I hope I can remember them all here. BF Tuna, amberjack, red porgy, Knobbed Porgy, Sand Tile, Black fin snapper, yellow eye snapper, Scamp, one UFO, yellow tail snapper, Beeliner, creole fish, and almaco jack. I say he had 14 because he had blue runners for live bait that he caught out there. The only fish that was tried for and didn't cooperate was the wahoo. They didn't get a strike. What a great variety of fish to have and not keep any red snapper or go catch any mangrove snapper. All total ..... Read More
