Breton Sound Bullred Fishkill.

A few days ago I was motoring across Breton Sound and came across a horrible sight... Thousands of big mature redfish flying dead on the surface. They went on for miles and miles. I know anyone out there recently can confirm this. I took pictures and video. The fish were stacked up in a rip line with 'pogie foam'. That nasty brown foam that is a byproduct of pogie ships harvesting. The miles of dead redfish were also a byproduct of pogie harvest. Tell me how it is ok to protect the mature fish with our ,one over 27' limit, for fishermen but these boats are allowed to kill TONS of weight in mature spawning size redfish. I don't know what can be done but I think everyone should know ..... Read More

Kickoff for Tailing Redfish

“May is kickoff for tailing redfish,” said Capt. Fred Rourk, “because of the moon cycle coming into full moon.”

Beginning May 22-25, the tides will be 6.2 feet or bigger, and the reds will move onto the flats from North Inlet out of Georgetown down to Beaufort where Rourk does most of his fishing.

Rourk says that these flats, which can be up to two miles long, will have several creeks that feed onto them during this time. This is where he looks for sandy, hard bottoms with short grass on them.

“The bait will move back into this short grass, and the reds will follow them,” Rourk said. “And when you see reds with their heads down and tailing, then you know they are feeding.” ..... Read More

Beautiful Trout in the Breton Sound

Fishing Magician Charters,LLC

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with my good friends: Greg, David, Perry, and Rene. They came in and spent the night at the lodge so that we could get an early start at the Marina. However, we didn't beat the crowd, it looked like everyone else had the same idea. We fished the edge of Breton Sound where got onto a couple of good trout bites. We ended the day catching our limit of 125 speckled trout.

Capt. Jason had the pleasure of fishing with a good friend Mike Rodriquez and his friends Dan and Paul from New England. Mike wanted them to experience a good trout bite, and that is what Capt. Jason did. They ended the day with 70 big beautiful ..... Read More

Twelve trips in three days between the Shore Thing Fleet. I am gonna miss a lot of the details, but will try to post as many pictures as time allows. All of the pictures I have will be on the Shore Thing Site as well. Gonna be a long one, here we go...

Thursday I was out with Stewart and Wade from Gulf Bank. These boys were up for what ever, I actually had to talk them into keeping fish. Fished shells, deep holes and drop offs in the LA Marsh, before we found a steady trout bite. Did help that both of the boys could cast well and keep the lines tight with the moving water. The bite was suttle, and we were bouncing carolina rigs with live shrimp and mullet over shells. Once they got ..... Read More

Dularge 5-18-13

Great to be back in the water today! Woke up to 20 mph winds this morning thinking it would be a tough day? Launched the Blue Wave and idled up to Jug's landing at 5 am to find my crew there early and ready! Mr. Wayne Forrestor and his son in law Steven Louque jumped on board and off we went.
At our first stop we found trout ready to jump in the Yeti. It wasn't a fast and furious bite but good enough to stick with. It want long before the Saturday morning boat parade showed up but, everyone caught fish.
At 11 am we had 46 nice trout on ice when Mr. Wayne said that's plenty enough, lets leave them biting and go get some reds. Man it's hard to leave biting fish but, we did and added 6 ..... Read More

Good times today having Will, Brandon & Robert Russ, and Stanley Barre back onboard. The bite is good as it gets right now. We had the trout coming in two at a time as soon as we pulled up to our first stop, and the Burn Hacks were flying. Fast and furious action as the trout were eating up our double rigged Shrimp Creole Matrix Shad. The guys stuffed the Yeti full and we left the fish biting. Doesn't get any better as we are on a roll. Thanks again guys for another incredible day. Big thanks also to Capt E Rodrigue for running the second boat with Wayne Forrestor. The weather has been outstanding this past week. Fishing has been countless. Jack has been doing charters these past 3 weeks. Things are starting to pick up around here fast. Today’s fishing was really good. Some captains went on the outside to fish for trout in Iron Bank and Stone Island. Also reports that there are still trout around in little lake. The reds are all over grand lake. Over all the fishing was good. Some did excellent. Some even had a tough day like Captain Jack. Jack caught 10 reds, 2 flounder, 3 trout, 5 drum, and 50 throw back reds. Come on down to Sweetwater the weather is great in Delacroix and so is the fishing. Best Area to Learn for Beginner

I'm going fishing Saturday morning and can't decide where to try. I want to learn Delacroix, but I am wondering if this is an area I need to go with someone who is familiar before I go on my own. Is it fairly easy to navigate? Anything I should be wary of (obstructions, shallow areas, etc.)? I will be fishing out of a 1546 xpress semi-v. My other options are Hopedale or Bayou Bienvenue. These questions are more related to safety than catching fish. Any thoughts, comments, or advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thank God for what we have.

The problem is all of which was stated here and also the huge increase in the amount of new fishermen due to gps , cell phones and fast boats. When I was young and went to the camp every weekend which was on bayou Robinson (Port Sulpher) there were many days I would never see another boat . Often would here tug boats, but could go the entire weekend without a sight of another vessel. So I beleve the truth of the matter is that its all of these things combined. Except the golbal warming bullshit. lol that was clever idea for many to get rich. Good Luck

Bashing the trout 5-17-13

Gaiennie Lumber Company came down from Opelousas for a good old fashion trout bashing. Randy, Ken, Landon, and Sam jumped on my boat and we were off to pretty green water. It took about an hour to find the yellowmouths but when we did the bite was on FIRE!! Everyone was hooked up and all I did was net and unhook fish. With doubles and singles flying everywhere it was tough to keep up. Pretty simple today! Double rigged Matrix Shad and live shrimp did the damage. Looking forward to seeing the Gaienne crew again in June. Thanks Capt. Marty LaCoste for setting up the trip.

I had a big group today with Gaiennie Lumber Co. We had three boats running and all boats crushed the big trout!! Delta or Beshels?

I have a day off this Monday that I plan on spending on the water. I don't travel down Hwy 23 much, but want to learn a few spots to fish. Weather reports look promising, with light SSE winds. . . what side of the Mississippi should we fish? Will it even matter with that wind direction?

Planning on launching from Delta, but may launch from Beshels if the east side sounds like the better bet.

Opinions? Thanks in advance!

Colonel Walter Fahr and his son David made it down from Baton Rouge today to get in on some May fishing in Black Bay. After catching mostly small specs in Black Bay with the wind picking up we made one stop inside to find the trout eating up in 10' feet of water. After loading up on nice 2 to 3 lb specks we made one move to fill their limit of reds tightlining in 6' of water with a few flounder thrown in. There are still a good number of specks inside if you can find clean water. I just had a cancellation for Memorial Day weekend! Capt. Sean 504-723-3229.
