One Stop Shop in Breton Sound

A one stop shop in Breton Sound Yesterday!!! I had the pleasure of fishing with Pat Bowen, his son Danny, and good friend Tim Maher. With the storm approaching, we headed out into the sound, hoping that the trout would cooperate. Lucky for us, it was a one stop shop!!! We pulled up, dropped the hook, and immediately started putting beautiful yellow mouths in the boat! Each fish were averaging 2-5 pounds and we were doubling and tripling up at all times! The fish were biting so well that I decided to keep a few extra to bring home to the house for mama! We finished the day with 6 reds, 3 sheepshead, and 100 beautiful trout! I’m back at it again today...I’ll post another report ..... Read More

Rigolets Trout Slam

Finally got my boat back yesterday due to a bent shaft it's been almost a week. So this morning we woke up early and headed out from the rigolets the water was like glass and I went to my first spot BOOM it was on 75 specs by 8:30 and 11 white trout. Had the biggest trout of my life at the boat today due to a poor net boy he got away! Prolly about 7lbs hope to catch one like that come Monday for the star tourny. All caught using of course the TKO Rucker rigged. ( John Rucker put me on this setup last year and it has paid off)

Wanting an inshore charter in NOLA area

I am looking at making a 3 day weekend trip with my wife in the near future. She has never fished for specks/red etc, but loves fishing. This would be a 1-day trip preferably. Any suggestions on a reputable guide would be greatly appreciated. I normally fish in the Venice area, so I am clueless to who/what is around the NOLA area. Thanks for your time.

Capt. Bob's Leeville Report

Hello Again Cyber Anglers,

Fished Wednesday through Sunday out of Boudreaux’s Waterfront in Leeville and with the exception of Sunday’s wind, all of the trips were in outside waters. The key to us catching this week was the tide. I like fishing Specks on an incoming tide and despite the heavy trawling in the area, water did not clean up further north until the incoming tide picked up. Places like Fornation Islands and Northwest Island rigs and shoal did not turn on till the gulf green water arrived. If you fished close to the coast in places like Casse-tete, Calumet, and Brush Islands, the bite was earlier in the morning. Wednesday and Thursday the bite for us was from 1030a to 1230p as ..... PRETTY DAY -TURNED UGLY

It was a beautiful day today with very little wind. The bite was a little slow today but nice fish.We were doing good untill i got a text telling me of bad weather coming my way.Had to run for the hills when i saw the weather radar. We did manage to get in most of the way but had to deal with 30mph winds for about 4 miles in open water. The 25 Parker dealt with it like a champ. We ended up with 60 trout.
All fish were caught on live shrimp.

Great Morning Bashing The trout 5-22-13

Great day smashing the trout today with Tom Fisher from Albuquerque. Tom was reeling in a double before I even dropped the power pole!! It was fish on almost every-cast for a good 30 minutes before any other boats pulled up. Double rigged Matrix Shad in Shrimp Creole, Lemon Head, Avocado, and Green Hornet killed the trout until other boats showed up throwing live bait. Not a problem, we switched over to live shrimp and continued to hammer the trout every cast!! We had put over over 75 trout in the boat before 9:30. We only kept 40 fish since Tom only wanted to keep 12 fish for himself to eat fresh. I kept the rest being I never bring home any fish. We made a quick stop in the marsh and ..... Read More

West Virginians Brought Luck

I took my girlfriends cousins down to Grand Isle last week for a couple days and we were really blessed with some decent enough whether and a whole lot of sun! Two of the boys had never fished saltwater before so it was fun seeing them reel in the big jack and letting them experience Louisiana's beauty. The flounder are running in the marshes right now and we were able to gig 10 in about 1.5 hours despite extreme wind and dirty water. I'm sure if the wind would have lied down we would have gotten many more. The trout were biting off of the bridge (Cigar's side) at night on live shrimp and in the marshes off of thunder bayou in the morning and when the tide is moving (caught on live ..... Read More

Fishing Shell Beach with my Pop and little bro.

Well the last two days I got to do one of my favorite things in the world. Fish with my Pop, and my little brother. They were down from Shreveport staying with me for a couple days and we made a couple trips. Day one started out windy so we motored down to the rocks to see what we could get rolling. Water was dirty and bite was slow at first but managed to start putting a box together under birds in Athanasio. We just fished DOAs on jig heads to try and target more of the bigger trout that were below the schoolies. Birds tapered off but just as they did the wind started to lay down. Bow southward and we were headed to the fishing grounds. We headed out into Breton with high hopes, and we ..... Read More

Breton Sound Bullred Fishkill.

A few days ago I was motoring across Breton Sound and came across a horrible sight... Thousands of big mature redfish flying dead on the surface. They went on for miles and miles. I know anyone out there recently can confirm this. I took pictures and video. The fish were stacked up in a rip line with 'pogie foam'. That nasty brown foam that is a byproduct of pogie ships harvesting. The miles of dead redfish were also a byproduct of pogie harvest. Tell me how it is ok to protect the mature fish with our ,one over 27' limit, for fishermen but these boats are allowed to kill TONS of weight in mature spawning size redfish. I don't know what can be done but I think everyone should know ..... Read More

Fish cleaning instruction

Hi,

I am a newbie and I see there are plenty of options on finding a fishing charter. What I have not been very successful is finding someone to show me how to clean the fish? Is there a charter service I am missing, or is there a group around who makes fish cleaning their unique type of business? I consider myself a horrible cook, and I would need to learn with hands on instruction.

Have a great day!

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Pastor Blake Boudreaux from Church of Kings and his fellow pastors. They were recommended by Jack Branch, thank you Jack.

The guys drove in this morning early, so we could get an early start then, we headed to Campo's to get some of their famous live shrimp, guaranteed to catch fish or die trying. You can't go wrong with a guarantee like that. There were no exception today. We fished the edge of Breton Sound, and caught our limit of 100 speckled trout by 9:00AM. Actually it was just in time to get rained on while running in.All fish were caught 2' under a popping cork using Campo's live shrimp.

Captain Paul - GPS Info

WHAT IS THE BEST GPS FOR YOU?
~ Captain Paul's response to: ~ Northshorefisher ~

That is like saying what is the best pickup truck to buy ! There are die hard consumers and loyal customers for all of the different brands and models.

All of the GPS models you listed will work with my CAPTAIN PAUL’s FISHING EDGE OF GPS WAYPOINTS if you have one of the manufacturers data (waypoints, tracks and routes) transfer programs. The transfer program can be found on their web sites. The Spartan versions are free but they all offer a more advanced program that has many more features than just transferring data.

The models you listed are near the top of the line for the different manufacturers line. Either of those listed should suit you needs very well
WITH THE PROPER MAPPING SOFTWARE.

I suggest that you go to these manufacturers web site and get the physical information on each of different units. Print out the specifications and then go over them item for item. Then check out what maps come installed in the unit. You will find that they all come ONLY with a basic map they call a base map. This is exactly what the name implies, a basic map of most of the U.S. coastline.

To get the most out of any of these units, you will have to get one of the supplemental mapping programs offered by the unit’s manufacturers. I believe that they avoid sticker shock by not including the detailed mapping as a package with the unit, as it would drive up the price $200- $300 dollars more.

Both brands offer aerial photo maps of the area you listed as part of a larger area of coverage. You will find that the detailed maps will be sold in zones or areas, such as from Mobile to Lake Charles or maybe something like Tampa to Galveston.

After you get the specifications you need, visit a stocking dealer, such as West Marine, Cabella’s, Bass Pro or any of the other advertisers in the Sportsman Magazine that sell the unit. Check out the units you narrowed down and get a hands on feel for the unit. Note the size of the screen, the definition of the screen and the ease of moving from one screen or feature to another. In addition price the cost of the supplemental mapping programs you will need to get the most out of the unit.

Let me know how you make out.

Venice inshore fishing

Hello
Im dragging my 18 foot bay boat to venice around june 6 for a couple of days of inshore fishing. I went to school at LSU and fished plaquemines parish quite a bit but never made it all the way down to venice. Anyway live in florida now and am coming back to enjoy to the greatest fishery in the USA! Just wondered if anyone had some general info about where to look for reds/trout in june in that area. Not asking for anyones honey holes or gps numbers, just general knowledge about the fishing patterns that time of year. Any advise is greatly appreciated!

Shrimp showed up, trout fishing still good, drums still drumming!!!

Been at it everyday, here are the greatest hits...

Was the only boat out on Sunday, and the weather was not very kind to us. Had Crystal, Bubba, Bailey and Trace out for a half day, near shore trip. All that produced for us was the big black drum fishing in the Bay. Was unable to get Dad any trout, and too rough to give the shark a fair try. Since the crew had drum fished before, they did well, even in less than perfect conditions. Got the youngsters on a few drag screamers and called it a day.

Had another day in the Bay on Monday. Sam and Ellen were in town from Memphis for three days of fishing. They were not keeping any fish and just wanted to fight fish. With a stiff breeze and no ..... Read More

Lafitte Reds 5/17/13

We fished Friday on the south side of little lake mainly to get out of the stiff south winds. Worked the rock jetties first then moved into area ponds. Picked up 15 nice keepers and released 40+ smaller reds. I like seeing all those smaller Reds which shows there was a good hatch/recruitment last year. All Reds were caught on Gold bladed spinner baits, Gold Spoons, and some were caught on bait shrimp under cork or tight lined.

Turkey seasons over and the fishing is great. Got to go to Lake James with my fishing buddy yesterday evening and although we went to do some night crappie fishing, suprisingly the bass were biting really good. Good thing they were I guess since there was over 50 boats in the water at the dock waiting to head out fishing a bass tournament. The water was still high from all the rain and it was really muggy. But we fished until about 11:30 til a storm came in and we got off the lake just in time. It was nice to be on the water again.Hope to do some trout fishing with Gracie this weekend. I'm ready to spend some time reeling them in,or at least watch her reel them in.
